Got up at 3:30 a.m. this morning and was on the road by 4:00 a.m. driving back to College Station. After an uneventful drive I arrived back to the airport around 6:45 a.m. Upon arriving at the airport I loaded up Wildfire and noticed that Wildfire was the same color as my rent car … how poetic 🙂
Upon exiting the airport, there was a very interesting piece of sculpture at the entrance. I’ve got to lookup what is it’s significance.
While I was a bit apprehensive leaving the airport on the busy highway, my fears were unfounded. We were just west of the A&M campus and they had tons of bike lanes and sidewalks that were all bike friendly. My route going east took me thru the middle of campus. Really a beautiful and peaceful ride.
I was about 9-10 miles to get to the East side of town before I actually got on the highway. Again a beautiful day for riding. Early on there were gentle winds … but as the miles went by, the wind increase. It was so bad that going up a couple of hills against a headwind I had to dismount and walk the bike up the remainder of the climb.
I’m finally on the Adventure Cycling Southern Route that heads to New Waverly. I have a very good friend from college swim team days that I had contacted earlier to meet up with. Since he lives in Willis and the road from New Waverly to Willis is I45 (ie not a bike friendly road) he agreed to pick me up somewhere on FM149. We finally hooked up and headed to Willis. Had a great Mexican dinner and called it a night … agreeing to meetup in the morning.
In my “rush” to get going I forgot to start my Runkeeper app that I’m using to track things.
